Bath Time: How To Create a Relaxing Spa Day At Home

A day spent at an expensive spa or salon may be just as soothing and rejuvenating as one spent at home. Find some time to yourself and create the calming environment you need to destress. Switch off your phone, burn some candles, and enjoy uninterrupted blissful relaxation in the comfort of your home.

Make “me time” intentional

Whether piping hot or lukewarm, heat to your desired temperature, turn off the lights and unwind to your favorite sweet treats and wine while you catch up on your latest TV show series or current read. Leave feeling rejuvenated and energized to face the rest of the week ahead of you; we’re sure this will become your new midweek pick me up!

Add some music

A great way to shut off your brain and deal with the never-ending cycle of thoughts running through your mind is to play some peaceful music while you bathe. Make your in-home spa experience even more soothing, and check out the premade “spa playlists” or “spa music” on Apple Music or Spotify to get you started.

Lighten the mood

No matter the season, a scented candle can facilitate just the right relaxing environment you’ve been looking for. We’ve found some of the top fragrances to be: lavender, chamomile, rose, and sandalwood. They are known and loved for their ability to increase your energy, lighten your mood, and bring you ultimate relaxation.

A state of euphoria

Add aromatherapy into the mix with your favorite bath bombs and salt. An aromatherapy-infused bath is great for both your physical and mental health. Certain bath salts are known to help with muscle soreness, fatigue, and other bodily pains. A great thing to implement in your post workout routine!

Face Masks

An ideal combo and dynamic duo of bath time are bubbles and facemasks! Age with grace when you treat those wrinkles to the hydration they need! Nourish your skin and keep it glowing with a yogurt honey face mask (recipe included below).

Face Mask Recipe:

  • One tablespoon of plain yogurt;
  • One teaspoon of honey;
  • A dash of ground cinnamon;
  • A dash of ground nutmeg.

Now mix all the ingredients in a cup or bowl and apply to the face. Expect a slight tingling sensation, this tells you it’s working. Allow up to 7-10 minutes to soak in and then wash with warm water.

What about hair?

Taking the proper steps to nourish your hair is also essential. Hair treatment should be done weekly, if not daily, to ensure lasting shine and strength. Some standard home hair masks include: mashing up an avocado and massaging it throughout your scalp or applying a beaten egg in a bowl to your hair, waiting for ten minutes, and then rinsing off with cold water in the shower. Both methods provide your hair with the nutrition and hydration it desires.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing has numerous advantages. It’s known to exfoliate your skin using bamboo bristles, most commonly used after a massage or scrub by a masseuse. It’s a great way to unclog pores, treat lymph nodes, improve circulation, and minimize cellulite. If you give this beauty trick a try, we’re sure you’ll be hooked!

Scrubs

Exfoliation is vital for dealing with rough skin! Shower/bath scrubs are ideal for removing dead skin cells that tend to build upon the skin’s surface, causing it to become dull and brittle. Luckily making a homemade scrub is pretty straightforward—mix some brown sugar and olive oil, and you’ve got your exfoliant mask. Natural treatments such as manuka honey are suitable for both dry and acne-prone skin types, or refreshing fragrances such as lemon or orange essential oil are also common ways to deal with dry skin.

Treat your eyes

While cucumbers have traditionally been used to relieve weary eyes, they are not the only method. Finding ways to treat your worn-out eyes from gazing at a computer screen for hours or being out in the sun all day is essential. A neat, all-natural treatment that works wonders is bringing two chamomile tea bags to a rolling boil in a saucepan of milk, immersing them in cold water, and putting them in the fridge. After cooling for 10 minutes, place them on your eyelids and feel refreshed! Note that the tea bags may be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Soften your hands

Wintertime brings out the dry and brittle skin in most of us. To avoid ruining your hands, the use of regular moisturizers and lotions are needed. However, we’ve got a natural treatment we’re sure you’ll love! In a blender, mix two drops of tea tree oil, five drops of lavender oil, and a spoonful of olive oil with two tablespoons of ice cream. Then, add five drops of tea tree oil, two teaspoons of lavender oil, and a banana for a fruity fragrance. Be sure you have a smooth consistency before applying. Then, generously lather your hands, nails, and cuticles before sliding on a pair of gloves. Let your hands sit in the rubber gloves for 10 to 15 minutes and unwind. To finish it off, wash your hands under warm water and apply lotion after use. It’s that simple!
